In the eyes of the locals, Pondok Indah is an exclusive area with countless beautiful, big houses and wide streets. Many notable people such as the country’s officials and famous celebrities live side by side, along with expatriates. The comprehensive facilities are one of the main reasons why those people live there.
The Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) is one of expats’ favourite schools in Jakarta. Located in Jalan Terogong, Pondok Indah, the school is in perfect distance for families living there. There are also two campuses of Raffles Christian School in the Pondok Indah area, one in Jalan Gedung Hijau Raya and the other one in Jalan Arteri Pondok Indah. A little bit to the east, there’s also Singapore Intercultural School (SIS) Bona Vista in Lebak Bulus, still in a considerably close distance to Pondok Indah.
The French International School (and a wonderful French bakery) is nearby as are good salons and spas dotted around for the ladies. Cipete is a more quaint suburb, but rather more vibrant than Pondok Indah, and suitable for a range of expatriate units.
Pondok Indah has a network of malls known as Pondok Indah Mall (PIM) 1, 2 and now 3, which contain plenty of good shops, restaurants and also the major supermarkets plus a cinema. Besides, Gandaria City mall is also not too far. The famous Pondok Indah Hospital is located here, providing state-of-the-art medical facilities and services.
In general, Pondok Indah is more expensive than for example Kemang. Rental costs start from USD 3.500/month. The upper range is USD 10.000 (in Bukit Golf area).
We have put together a list of apartment buildings, compounds and areas with private houses together below. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for further information and more options.
There are several further options of older apartment buildings like Bukit Golf Apartment, Greenview, Hampton and Bumimas Apartment. All of them are in close distance to JIS.
Pondok Indah is not really famous for compounds. There is one small compound with six houses right next to JIS and one Lembong compound, located behind the Ericson tower.
Most houses in Pondok Indah are built in a classic, elegant style with high pillars (“The White House” style). Finding modern and minimalist houses in Pondok Indah is rather difficult.
Areas popular with the expats are the ones closer to JIS site. The other side of Pondok Indah is less desirable, but you can still find a selection of big and small houses there.
