EMC Presents: High Tea & Dancing for a Cause

By Carrie Crozier

For this month’s blog post, I share a little about my personal experience working with EMC Relocations from when we moved to Jakarta. I also shine a light onto the personal side of the company, now that our professional relationship has also become a friendship. The CEO and founder of EMC, Esti McMillan, recently celebrated her birthday in a truly lovely way. I’m excited to share the details with you to give some insight into the woman behind the company and the many ways she gives back to the community.

Fact – EMC is known as the real-estate company to use when relocating to Jakarta. Esti genuinely cares about seeing her clients and their families well-homed, as attested by the many praises in EMC’s client reviews. From my personal experience with Esti’s services, I can honestly say her attention and assistance – starting months before we even got here – helped make our move so much smoother. Her expertise allowed us to quickly connect in our new city with confidence.

Beyond her company’s core services, however, Esti is also heavily involved in the Jakarta expat community – being both a local and an expat herself. You can often find her at various associations’ coffee mornings, charity functions and parties. In Jakarta, there are a number of associations that help expats find a community away from home and most have the dual purpose of raising funds for their social welfare branches. These branches identify needs within the local community and offer financial support to important projects that focus on the most vulnerable sections of communities, often being the disabled, elderly or children living in poverty.

As mentioned, last month was Esti’s birthday and, in true Esti fashion, it had to be glamorous and over-the-top! To celebrate, EMC hosted a beautiful Gatsby-themed high tea at the Peacock Lounge in the Fairmont Jakarta. The food was both stylish and delicious, charmingly served in an elegant drawer set. It was tough to pick a favourite bite with so many options to choose from!

There was a fun mix of Esti’s long-term and new friends, all coming together to celebrate. Some were meeting each other for the first time and some were also ex-clients, like me! Conversation flowed easily and it was obvious we all had at least two factors in common – we were all excited to celebrate with Esti and everyone looked glammed-up and fabulous.

It’s no surprise that the afternoon passed quickly – tasty nibbles were washed down with a refreshing glass of sparkling wine, multiple birthday toasts were made, and fun photo shoots ensued. The festivities weren’t finished, of course, until there was some dancing! The brave after-party crew continued on to a fun evening of dancing to live music, some kicking on until very late. Anyone who has met Esti knows that this birthday line-up suited her to a T!

Those who have had the pleasure of meeting Esti also know how deeply she cares for the community and helping those less fortunate. She wanted a party that was fabulous and sequined-filled, of course, but also one that would make a difference. In lieu of gifts, she asked for donations to go to ANZA Social Welfare and her friends did not disappoint. Thanks to Esti’s generous efforts, enough was raised to fund one of ANZA Social Welfare’s projects for almost two months! A spokesperson from ANZA Social Welfare thanked Esti, saying, “What a wonderful result for a wonderful cause. That is so kind of her to think of us. Thank you Esti!”.

Not yet an EMC client but curious about the ways they can assist you? Check out their ‘Services’ tab or reach out to Esti to see how they can help. And remember to keep an eye out on the dance floor – you might just spot Esti sashaying the night away, on those rare occasions that she has a spare moment free!
